Evening all...

Just popping in before the start of the Aussie GP to ask if anyone can recommend a website where I can do some reading and get up to speed with the latest advances in computer hardware.

Basically, I'm looking to buy or build a machine that will leap as far forward as possible off my current state of dual core, 4Gb RAM, 512Mb Video, 500Gb IHD, on-board audio sloth.

I hear things like Sandy Bridge (newest Intel processor family?), SSD HDs, 64-bit, etc but it's been eons since I picked up a copy of Maximum PC or Boot and I know I'm way behind the curve.

TIA for any assistance... Happy Weekend All!

Jay you should visit the thread Julian and I are a part off. Three guys just built computers in there. I just bought a new one and Julian has built his own as well. Those guys would love to help you out.

Jay, it depends on how deep you want to get into things. For the best technical info along with benchmarks, Toms hardware (external link) is probably the gold standard. Some of the articles are major geekfests, but many are quite straight forward and all are informative.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Thanks JJ! I vaguely remember Tom's...

I'll add that to the list of book marks, thanks! :D

This will show you out of touch I am but...

Is Falcon Northwest still considered a legitimate contender as a computer builder? I used to have a Mach V a couple of computers ago and IIRC, it was about the baddest box you could own then.

They still make nice PCs but, you'll be paying a ton when you can build your own.
