And every Apple product comes with a big helping of Steve Jobs' arrogance because he knows people will buy his products no matter whether they work as advertised or not. Put an i in front of the product name and it guarantees instant sales success.

So is there one service who could be considered the "top performer" in terms of speed as well as availability? I realize that "4G" is still in the process of being defined, at least I've read that. Apple/AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint?
I've been happy with Verizon and I've been with them since before they were Verizon. The network is reliable and the coverage is everywhere. I don't do much broadband type stuff with my phone but use it mostly for text messaging and phone calls. Yeah, phone calls, imagine that...

4G is well defined, 100mbits mobile, 1 gbits stationary for the downlink. Trouble is no one can hit those quite yet. LTE and WiMax are probably the data throughput leaders (eventually) but HSPA+ has a bit of a jump on everyone. None of the current 4G networks are really 4G capability though. Their throughput is not all that stellar.

I think Verizon has a pretty clear plan CDMA for voice and LTE for 4G. Sprint is all over the map as they have CDMA, WiMax, LTE, and iDEN. Verizon had a few coverage issues as they were upgrading their network, but they have invested a boatload of $$ getting their network up to date.
All this acronym gobbledygook means nothing to me. If I can text and make calls, I'm happy. I realize this isn't where the sales are in the cellular industry, but rather in expensive data plans that allow all the broadband bells and whistles. I'm still a bit of a luddite when it comes to phones...
