Very nice shots, are you using the ettl or manually setting the flash?

Thanks for the info. I'm learning how this gets done and made a few mistakes in my workflow.

I forgot to turn on the AF/IR feature of the EX580II and had a short shooting window, so a few came out OOF.

It's a first timers screw-up, but that's part of how we learn ;) Just like on here, when others give us good information 8) Thanks.

If you want to try to soften the flash, of course bounce it up, but also use a card or some white object taped to the flash head to bounce "some" light back onto your subject.

I actually used a Stofen with the flash head aimed up for bounce. Thanks.

Its excellent that the stofen gave those highlights in the hair.
Do you use any flash exposure compensation with the stofen?

The extra highlights are a PP effect. I did use some flash compensation, but couldn't get a consistent exposure. I turned it off and used TV mode and shutter speed to get a more consistent exposure.
It was shot inside a large wine bar with high ceilings. The lighting was all over the place. They had track lights, two fire places and table lamps. They had candles and Christmas lights all over the place. Moving around would give different exposure, so I found it easy to control it my self. I normally shoot manual, but became lazy and let the camera handle half of the decisions

Yea, I figured there HAD to be some kind of diffuser/bounce to get a shot that good.
