Hi,
is it possible to hook the G12 to a computer and do interval shooting?
I would like to use my G12 for time lapse photography.

Is there a timer/remote control for the G12 that supports interval shooting?

Thanks
Dirk

There appear to be a number of these available from different sellers at quite varying prices even though they seem to be the same or very similar units. Mass knock-offs from Asia I am sure. Much cheaper than the Canon one. This is the least expensive I have found after shipping is included:

I may give one of these a try.

Have you tried the software Canon provides with the camera?

On my G9, there is a sftw App called RemoteCapture DC (it is a couple levels down in the folders under Program Files >>> Canon Utilities.)
There is a control option there to set the 'self timer' for example. And on mine/for-the-G9, there is 'interval settings'.

The camera needs to be connected and turned-on, to launch the program.

The G12 does not have Remote Capture like the G9 and previous models. Here's a link to a third party software that can be used with previous Canon Powershot models that did have Remote Capture.

I'm not aware of any method available for the G12 to do time lapse, unless it might be somehow made available by the software hack CHDK (external link) some day.

The G12 has an interval timer of sorts using the self timer. The delay can be set up to 30 seconds and up to ten shots can be triggered. However, the "delay" is only the initial delay, thereafter the shots appear to be fired as quickly as the G12 will fire them.

I bought a cheap "Neewer" interval timer (think/thought it was from Yongnuo) and it seems to work. The initial delay can be set up to 99 hours and the interval between shots also up to 99 hours. If the G12 had a Bulb mode, the Neewer would set the duration of exposure. The number of shots can be set up to 399 shots. (All this is from reading the poorly written manual and pushing the setup buttons. In practice, I've only tested it to see that it works with the G12.)

I'll eventually get this interval timer tested and on my blog -- I created a bit of a delay for myself by getting the G6 and playing with it.

It is kind of interesting what cannon does with the G-series. The G9 lost the jack for the remote control. Yet, it had the interval feature built-in. I would have preferred to have the remote port.

Yet, with the remote back in for the G10 and on, why take away the 'interval' feature? It certainly would not have cost more than a few KB of internal code.

Why no remote if the G12 has a port for it? I don't drag around a laptop when I have my P&S with me.

With the G12, you can use Canon's RS60-E3 that I showed at http://lightdescription.blogspot.com/2010/10/g12-rs60-e3.html (external link)

or the "Neewer" interval timer that I mention above also serves as a push button remote.

The shutterboss looks almost like the wired remote I have for my 5D other than the plug. So this remote plugs directly into the G12? I don't see any Canon G series listed on the specs sheet. Plus you still have to use external software to put the time lapse together.

The Neewer and the Shutter Boss are just like the item at the link I mentioned toward the start of this thread. For $20ish or less including shipping, it seems like the solution.

The Aputure TC-80N3a is working fine with my G12 albeit G12 not being listed on the specs sheet. ;)

That is almost 100% the same as the one I have for my 5D.

Connectors are apparently differents between 5D and G12.
