i know subject is tough to get what im asking..

we went to the mall.. and a guy had his camera hooked up to his Mac. He took a pic of each of my kids and dropped them into a background and printed out a card..

i was talking to him and forget the name of the software... he said it only ran on Windows so he was running windows on his mac to use the software...

i thought it would be cool if i looked into something like that as my kids b-day are coming up...

tried googling but didnt know what to search for...

one example was my one kid put shades and a hat on... he added him in as if the paparazzi was taking pics of him... and it said.. Rock Star

other one was my lil guy put big hands on (mickey mouse hands) and he dropped him next to elmo (not sure what the mickey hands had to do with elmo)

That green screen program would be cool, not sure if I would want to buy a green screen for it to work. A 12' x 12' green screen cost around $600.00 plus you need a frame to hang it on. It would be ideal for studio work, but it would be useless for regular photography.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

A cheap "green screen" could be to pose your kids somewhere dark - like outside at night, with a very distant background, and expose with flash. You should get a black background making it easy to select the subject.
I use a technique like this from time to time with plants. These examples were just taken inside during the day, but relying solely on flash for illumination. The close range helps a lot though (the old inverse square law), so I can't be sure it will "scale up" properly.

The Photokey software will knock the (green or blue) background out the instant the photo is imported into the program. Green screens do not cost $600.

If you photograph someone/something in front of a single colour background, which is contrasting from the subject, then you can use the magic wand tool to select the background colour then invert the selection to select the subject.

He may have done it in seconds, but without a green screen or something I assure you it will looks much worse on inspection than a good photoshop job.

Now, for a small card, you may not care.

In the future, this type of question is more appropriate to ask in the Post Process section as this has nothing to do with EOS cameras. https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18
