This made me laugh....

Short summary / lead - in .... I'm looking to buy a Sigma 8-16 within the next 72 hours or so.... I noticed Adorama had a better price than B&H.... I've never bought anything from Adorama, but since I've spent thousands of dollars with B&H, I got on Live Chat with them to see if they'd do any price matching....

Welcome to Live Chat at the B&H Consumer Photography Department. Please wait while we connect you to an agent who will be able to assist you...
You have been connected to Yossi O.
Aaron : Price matching on Sigma 8-16mm for Canon
Yossi O: I will transfer you to our Pricing Agent to assist you with this inquiry
Kenneth L has entered the session.
Yossi O has left the session.
Kenneth L: Do you have a link for where you've seen it for cheaper?
Aaron: http://www.adorama.com …aign=Other&utm_term=Other (external link)
Kenneth L: one moment please.
Kenneth L: I'm sorry we are not going to match that price.
Kenneth L: is there anything else I can do to help you today?
Aaron: that's it i suppose.
Kenneth L: have a good day.

No explanation... no "sorry we can't help you out".... just "we are not going to match that price" ....

I dunno.. it just me laugh a little bit at their lack of any real response.....

I guess I'll be trying out Adorama for the first time...

Seems like a reasonable response?

I bought a 135mm f.2 last week from BandH. They matched the price that Abes of main were offering, including Abe's $15 discount. was very happy.

i called on the phone, told them I was going to buy one right now with them or with Abe's once I hang up. the rep got off the phone, came back and matched the deal.

Very reasonable, probably had something with me being on the phone with my credit card in hand. I am in sales, that's how I would do it, if the customer is right in front of me and ready to buy then I would always accept. Call them up.

Good luck.

I shouldn't have to mention that I'm about to buy.... do people just randomly contact customer service to get them to lower prices for no reason?? They lost the sale. I closed the chat window and ordered the lens elsewhere.

WTF do you expect them to say? The did in fact say "sorry". What is it that compels you to post this? Unbelievable...

B&H does not list this lens ( A GRAY MARKET VERSION) on their website. They may not even stock it!

It's because you tried to get them to match their USA market lens price to the Grey market lens price.

I have a feeling they will survive.

While I like B&H and Adorama, I do the majority of my shopping at B&H. Why? Their vast stock is far superior, their store is run in a much more efficient fashion, in spite of the complete makeover of Adorama, and their prices are on the whole cheaper.

In fact, when I get email sales from Adorama, I find that B&H's regular price is Adorama's sale price or in some instances still lower.

In this case, as others have pointed out, the OP was requesting an apples to oranges comparison, and I don't blame them for not matching.

A store the size of B&H has to be run with strict procedures. They follow protocol. When you asked the gentleman on the phone to price match, he transferred to the person who has the authority to grant or deny. They did as they are supposed to.

On the other hand, I just used a Macbook at Best Buy, pulled up B&H's price on a WD Black Caviar 2tb hard drive. B&H had it for 139. Best Buy had it for 189. Best Buy came down to 149 and I bought it.

Thanks, B&H.

So... yeah... I'm dumb... this is what happens when I go shopping online during finals week at school....

lack of sleep made me miss the fact entirely that it was a grey market lens...

so... continue on.... I'm dumb. Enjoy.

the fact you made a mistake does not make you dumb. Stupid maybe, but not dumb

KIDDING!!!!!!!

Hey, we all make mistakes.

I called B&H and had the team leader of computers search for the correct RAM upgrade for my MAC tower. He found the wrong RAM, I bought it, brought it home and found it was wrong. I had to go back down there, return it, and buy the right ones.

Mistakes happen. When I got an email survey, they asked what I disliked most. I told them their team leader should have been more careful in his search.

It then asked what what I liked most. I said mistakes happen and they are still the best in the business.

As a life long NYer I would sometimes use BeachCamera to avoid tax. Now that I live in Florida I will use B&H 100% of the time unless I'm buying used. They are tops...

And nobody called you dumb...
