just wondering if a Canon 200mm L Series f2.8 lens with hood is worth $450 ??? I shoot a little bit of everything from people to landscapes to cityscapes to birds... I know a zoom (70-200) would be a better choice etc. but I just want to know if this lens is worth what the guy is asking for it... thanks

I know, right? I'm just sayin'...

I paid $800 for mine, they retail for $700-$750. So yeah, for $450 it's either stollen or dropped. Ask a lot of questions, but yeah, that's a too-good-to-be-true price.

EDIT: Mine is a mark II, so maybe that is a used mark I. Not sure what the resale on that is.

=)

If there is nothing wrong with the lens, then its definitely worth every penny of $450 and more.

Both versions are considered good quality. I'd buy it.

I paid $535 for a used one in mint condition a little over 3 years ago. If it's in good shape, that's a bargain.

The mk I and mk II are identical except for the lens hood.

My mk I was $400 because it was a little rough on the outside but perfect on the inside. It is an excellent lens and is worth every penny I paid for it. I'd feel the same way if I'd paid $600.

I also thought same,

to OP better inspect lens in broad daylight and see front & rear elements for scratches also if lens screw paint is chipped then it indicates lens have been opened.

A 200 f2 for $450 would be definately either stolen or missing some elements.

I have the 200 f2.8 and it is an absolute pleasure to work with. It is a very high quality lens and a bargain compared to other L lenses. I bought a used copy Code: UU for $520 about 2 years ago.

The difference between version I and version II is easily identifiable. The version I has a built in lens hood. Version II has a removable bayonet mounted hood. As far as IQ goes, consensus seems to be that both versions are equal.
