Hello,

I got a question about my recently purchased first DSLR, a Canon 20D. There's one thing I don't get; now I'm pretty sure it's not broken, but I'm just doing something wrong. In the beginning it just worked fine, let me explain the situation here.

So, I got a 20D with a 18-55 IS Lens. My camera is on M (Manual) setting. Now the wheel on the top, next to the shutter regulates the shutter-speed, which does so just fine. Now, the wheel should control the aperture/diaphragm of the lens, but doesn't work fine anymore. I've only taken 150 pictures maybe. The first 50 pictures I could control the diaphragm with the wheel, but after that I probably changed that so it doesn't work anymore. What did I do wrong, or is it just broken?

The aperture does change on the top-display when zooming in and out (because the lens doesn't have a constant aperture), so I'm guessing it isn't the contact either.

Thanks in advance!

the on switch on the back of the camera by the wheel has two positions, one turns the camera on the second enables the wheel so you can change aperture...make sure you have the switch set for the wheel to work.

Ok thanks, that solved the problem.

Why are there two positions though? And what are the differences? Only that the wheel does or doesn't work?

There are two positions so that you can disable the wheel and prevent accidental setting changes when handling your camera.
