OK, I am a total virgin when it comes to shooting astrophotography. I have read and read to see what gear that I want to start . I have spoken to Chris at OPT. He has given me 3 options on mounts. Which would you choose??

Celestron CGEM computerized Equatorial "GOTO" mount $1399.00

Vixen Sphinx Equatorial mount/with Starbook ( he says some people do not like Starbook) $1799.00

iOptron iEQ45 GOTO Equatorial mount, ( I think this is best choice ) $1599.00

I am going to use for getting started my 300 mm 2.8L lens and 2x entender.I will need to buy a mount bracket for lens.

What do you think? and advice Greatly appreciated. Steve,Chris was a great help at OPT and I told him you sent me ( he added 50%) because I knew you !! LOL Thanks People

Great, I'll have to call and collect my 25%. :D

Chris is always a great help, I need to call him and wish him Happy Holidays.

I've never used any of these mounts but all of these would be great starter mounts. Much nicer than the set I started with. I've heard that Celestron had good customer service and I have had good experience with Vixen but I know nothing about iOptron. I have also heard that many people don't prefer the Starbook controller/software on the Vixen Sphinx mounts. The Celestron is much like the Meade controller that I used when I had my LX200. Pretty intuitive design and layout.

I would suggest a visit to Cloudy Nights and post this question, that way you'll get some input from actual users.

Good luck, keep us posted.
