That's it! I've had it with the af 50s. Bring on the manual glass recommendations.

Hey guys,

Im sick and tired of all of the AF 50s. They are all without their flaws. I'm looking for something equivalent to the image quality of the 50L as I desire bokeh quality and overall image quality.

Please let me know of any of your recommendations. My canon 50 will be out the door this weekend! Yesterday, I didn't like feel of the manual focus ring, it seems shifty unlike L lenses.

Heavily craving for the 50L.

Giving up on that craving for the 50L;) Sorry, I have nothing legitimate to say... I was just entertained by your post's contradiction of your sig. I suspect GasRocks will be along shortly with some actual wisdom for you...

Voigtlander 58 , ZE 50 1.4 and ZE 50 Makro are all in native EOS.

Adaptable: Rokkor 58 1.2, Leica 50mm, Olympus Zuiko 50mm Macro, Pentax 50mm Super-Multi-Coated Takumar (M42), Leica 50mm ƒ/1.4 Summilux-R, Nikkor 50mm ƒ/1.2 AIS, C/Y 50 1.7.

If I were you, I'd get the ZE 50/2 Makro.

Zeiss. I picked up a 21 and 35 recently and I'm really happy right now as I process my photos.

My Sigma 50 f/1.4 showed focus shift at f/2 and f/2.8. Likewise my Zeiss 50 f/1.4.

Only my Zeiss 50 f/2 MP showed no focus shift. Focus wide open, shoot stopped down a bit and your subject is still in focus. That is because it is a macro lens and has extra glass to correct the focus shift inherent in the regular 50mm design. I sold the other 50's and kept the MP.

Since we are talking about MF lenses, what mounts can be used with a glassless adapter on a Canon camera? I heard Nikon and M42 can, what others?

You can use leica R and M , Contax/yashica , I think Exakta too

if I was youId grab a Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.7 , under 200 bucks and probably the sharpest 50mm ever made according to some people as good as the Canon Ls

another one for dollar to output value is a Soviet Helios 44-2 series , its a 58mm f2 based on the Carl Zeiss Biotar , I got mine shipped for 48 dollars with caps and a metal lens hood!

OM, for sure. I use a Zuiko 50/3.5 macro.

There's a comprehensive lens adaptation thread - there's a link in the FAQ sticky I think.

Mac,
What are you shooting? I'd love to try the Rokkor 58 1.2, seems like it has a cult following, but some work to adapt. This is a good list for various mounts:

I like to shoot portraits and with my 50's search I'm pretty happy with the Leica. Not critically sharp, but designed that way for portraiture. From what I've read the 1.4 is better, but its out of my price range. Below is my notes I kept during my search. Dream lens though:

50's
SMC Pentax-A 50/1.2 $600
Rokkor 58/1.2 $200 <-needs modifaction

Noctilux 58mm 1.2 (expensive)
Leica R 50/1.4 (expensive)

Zuiko 50/1.4
Zuiko 50mm f/1.2
Mamiya 55mm f1.4 ($20-70)
Yashinon DS 1.4 / 50 mm
Voigtländer 58 1.4 ($400)
olympus OM zuiko 55 1.2 ( leitax conversion,) $250
tomioka/mamiya/chinon 55mm 1.4 (cheap)
Planar C/Y 50mm f1.4

I've tried most everything. I'm shooting the Sigma 50/1.4. My copy is spot on. If I had the cash flow, I'd be getting a ZE 50/2 as well.
