I am at the beginning of putting together a cross promotion....."publicity stunt", for the lack of a better term. A botique store here in town made an inquirey about doing some work. And in talking to the shop owner, we have turned it into a big event. The store is a "lower, high-end trendy casual" type of store. She has room to set up a background and lights in the store. We were thinking of doing an extended shoot that lasts all evening, say 6 - 9:30. With the models showing up in shifts, so there is always someone in make-up, hair, and shooting. For the people to watch. We are looking for a hair shop that wants to participare in the event. The final images will be on the walls of the store.
So far I am planning it to be a one light shoot. Most likely a 6 foot octo. Possible another light for fill if it is too dark. I am going to shoot tethered into a laptop and borrow a monitor that turns for the people to look at as I shoot. I know so far I will be shooting 3/4 as they dont really sell shoes. (The accasional sandel, but nothing regularly.) And for better detail on the clothes/ jewlery.
I (think I) have no problem shooting in public. The logistics so far have been pretty easy. It is not too different than a regular location shoot. But I am sure We will end up overlooking something. I do event portraits regurlarly, but this will be the first 'public' session.
We are thinking of doing this 4 times a year as the merchandice changes in the store with the seasons. We have thought of doing a promotion before hand of having the women that shop there enter some how to be one of the models.
Has anybody else done something like this? Any inside tips to keep the energy going? I'd love to hear from thoes that have, before I start to nail down some of the details.
