I really don't know how to light studio stuff, to get that nice even light especially when I want to do some low key lighting.

Here is the attempt:

Things I like: how nice the bokeh fit and the color.

Thinks I don't like:I missed one of those pink dots on the right ><, The cup could be much more well lit, there is not enough DOF for the christmas light in the FG.

I couldn't get enough DOF and have good bokeh int he background.I think this could be solved with distance of the back lights to the subject, but I liked how large the bokeh was.

How could I light the cup better while still getting that -4EV for the background?

Thanks so much :D!

Hey, nice effect you're going for. Are the coloured dots tiny christmas lights? (The ickle pink one shouldn't be too hard to clone out).

Regarding the lighting; Small diffuser perhaps? I see you have remote flash triggers, so I assume you've read Strobist? Should be inspiration and advice there.

One technique he used was with a shoe; long shutter (30 s?) and room in complete darkness. Then flashing the strobe at the shoe from all sides. You could try something like it, only with an ND on your lens.

I think it would be the easiest to take at least two pictures (merging them in post processing); one for the bokehbubbles, and one for the cup. It would also make it easier with regards to editing the background.

Try a piece of white cardboard just out of the frame at the sides of the cup to put some highlights in it.

Thanks for the tips guys!! this image actually made it into explore. It was my first one. That was a huge confidence booster to think that I have problems with my images and it make it into explore. I know it still needs work, but it's encouraging :D
