I post enough cat pictures on here, maybe time to get some practice on real people. This is my 6 year-old son Sean. PP in LR3, still learning. I like the look, but I'm sure some of you guys on here could help me improve it by leaps and bounds :)

I think it's a great photo and if you like it that's really all that matters.

I'd probably chop a little from the top

Thanks! Do you like the editing at all, or are the colors too... different?

I think I will, this is cropped at the original ratio but I will probably make it a 5x7 or 8x10... I think those are both shorter formats.

Any comments positive or negative on the editing? I'm always interested in ways to improve and be a better photographer. I want to become confident in my practice photos before I decide to ask anyone to pay me for photography :)

Erich

I would probably crop a bit off the top as well. Also clone out that one stray hair on the top of his head lol.

Those look great Ann! I guess I was clinging to the yellow look because he was lit by the window and I thought it was supposed to be warmer like that, but now that I compare it I think I like the more natural skin tone. The black and white one is great too, I haven't started trying black and whites yet because I know it's never as simple as just a color conversion or preset in Lightroom. I have a couple of good black and white tutorials in magazines that I haven't tried out yet.
Thanks for the feedback! :)

@3DZukini
I think its a lovely shot of your little boy. Great focus on the eyes, and he has a very cheeky smile!

@ann-mom
You have cropped and adjusted the shot very nicely. I really like it that way.

It just shows how important it is not just to get the shot but also know what you can do with it in PP. I am dreadfully indecisive when cropping and adjusting tone, but it can make a world of difference!

Thanks:D

Some how I seem to be good at croping my processing is always really simple not to time consuming and I'm sure that will change as time goes on. Really you just have to play with cropping and not be afraid of it. You can always reverse it just make sure you have the original.

Good points KKing, Lightroom is proving to be an excellent tool for me so far. I've been a Photoshop user for 15 years, but Lightroom is so focused on photo work that I hardly need to go into Photoshop for anything. I like how everything is non-destructive... like the cropping, so I can go back to the original any time. I'm still learning it but it's a fun program for sure, and being able to undo and start over, or re-crop, etc... will help me learn from all you folks on here :)

Thanks ca7696! Now I need to start going through the other 2,000 pics on my computer and do some more learning :) I might start with this one again though, just to see if I can make a good black and white out of it as well.
