Did a group photoshoot yesterday. This is one of the shots of the individual photoshoots.

1 x Genesis 300b with 60x60 Elinchrom softbox. Photo straight out of the cam (D7000 + 17-55 f2.8).

Shalaby, you're making me want to get a grid for my octa.

You're right....depends on the monitor wheter or not you see the lighter background on the shadow side of the pic.
The background is actually white.
The softbox was feathering the light direction and over powered ambient to the point that the background became almost black even though it was only 2-3 feet behind me!

lol... its kinda a necessary evil for me. i'm shooting in a 10x10 studio so grids are not an option, but a necessity for me... i tried a few shots without it and light spilled just everywhere :(

so yeah... 99% of the stuff you'll see from me is gridded

I also like the direction it gives the light, giving a slightly more contrasty look on skin countours and clothing :)

its a love hate thing :) lol....

You've convinced me, I'll pick one up next paycheck... $54 for my Large Octa grid from PCB.

My first submission in this thread - as I've only just now gotten OUTDOORS with my speedlight (waiting on my VML). Went to the park to hook up with a local-ish Mayhem model, only to be stood up by her (got into an accident this time, last time her Grandfather died). Not to waste my morning, I asked the photographer who came to watch me do my thing to pose for me instead. Here she is - technical data is on my flickr.

Also, I'm quite pleased with the power that the 580ex can put out. Sure, I was in the woods/shaded area, but I'm still impressed. I already know I'll be a giddy school girl when I get my VML....
