I went with a single light for all shots. Choose not to use a reflector for fill either. I'm really trying to master the use of a single light. Placement, distance, angle, etc... that, and trying to keep minimal light on my background in a 10x10 space. Not easy, but its fun and I'm learning a great deal.

The light was a single Einstein + 36" Octabox + Grid to control spill. In a 10x10 space, lgith would just go everywhere, and I didn't want too much light falling on my GB to achieve the look I got. So yeah, pretty much a Gridded 36" Octa.

FINALLY bought a backdrop setup, some paper, and a reflector holder yesterday, got my first paid headshot gig in about 30 minutes, heres some practice I shot yesterday for an industrial engineer friend of mine

1 strobe: YN560 into Qbox 24, reflector camera left, qbox camera right, Seal Grey seamless paper

thanks man - being I was also the wardrobe stylist for this entire shoot, I'll take the compliment on multiple levels lol....

do you have to buy all the outfits for the models or do you tell them what to bring? always wondered how this worked. i'm sure larger studios have their own wardrobes and such

Yeah it really does! and it's still very fun!

I personally have a Calumet Photo close by so I just went there and got their normal setup, it can hold 9' wide paper but since I'm bringing it to college I just got 2 rolls of 4.5' paper.

it is super sturdy with the 4.5' on it, couldn't be happier. for paper I got Polar White and Seal Grey. If I had enough space I would have just done the white as you can get grey with different lighting on the white and a lot of space between your model and paper, but I will not have that kind of space at school or at home, so I got that deep grey for that.

I love the setup, it also comes with a great carrying bag that secures the stands and everything very tightly, couldn't be happier!

Excellent - I'm being tasked with a day of photography at a local salon, and I'll need to source a good backdrop system. I also have a Calumet close by, so I'll check them out.

Jeremy, yeah, I'm really happy with it man! I highly suggest it, if you do have the space though I would suggest the 9' paper, I'm happy I did the 4.5 as I really won't have the space, but it will sometimes require some photoshop to clean up the edges of the paper and such, its really not that wide even for one person
