Hello people,

I just flew to Kuching, Sarawak for a holiday trip. One of the highlights was this place called Kampung Benuk, one of the oldest Bidayuh Longhouse in Kuching.

My target was to shoot the Natives there. This girl caught my eye behind the window. She has this innocent lovely look that I tot 'this could be an amazing shot that represents this place'

I really want to extract the most from this photo.
Here is the original photo unedited. So as u can see my photo above is heavily cropped.

iso 100 50mm f2.2 1/250
Canon 550D 50mm f1.8

After C&C from clubsnap.com, here is what I have come out with.

1)

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/png'

My friend has recommended me to give more headroom so that it gives a feeling she is trapped behind the house.
2)
IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 503 | MIME changed to 'text/html'

I feel that my image 1 has a tight crop give most image a compelling feeling. However my friend's suggestion has a point too. Which one do you prefer and why? Share your views so that I learn!

Picture 1 I like better because you can see the window frame and it shows more of what is in the picture instead of just a open area with a kid in window.
Great picture to :)

Agree, crop the bottom and side from the first, leaving the building.it shows where she is.Then a little GND on her face.

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

I like #1. You can still see the window and gives some context for story.

bannedPermanent ban

you want to portray this place as a confinement for kids?

great pictures btw, i like the first one most. it gives a more spirited vibe to the place. the other two make her look like shes in a refugee camp.

There are no rules for a good photograph and there are no excuses for a bad one.

The first image seems the strongest for me and puts her existence into context ie there are family photos and along with the blurred vegetation suggests that this is a side that tourists aren't supposed to see.

@ the 2 post above.

my poll is about the image labeled 1 and 2!

not the original unedited one. It seems like the original is actually better to your eyes to my surprise.

I like the unedited version but the girl gets a little lost in the darkness of the house. Image #1 is great! Her face is brighter and you can still see the character of the building. By keeping more of the image in #1 your eye is drawn around the picture and then to the girl. Nicely done!

"Just keep shooting!" Gripped 50D, 50mm 1.8 fantastic plastic!, 28-70m 2.8, 70-200mm 2.8 and some other crap!
