Hey guys, I'm on the fence about these two photos I snapped recently. They aren't the best, but I can't decide if they're any good

In this image, I think the tree is blocking the sunlight on the mountains behind it, and the dead tree within the tree is adding too much monotone brown. Also, I think lighting is too dark.

As for this image, I just can't decide whether the composition is OK or not. I think it's just boring

Any input appreciated!

Both look underexposed to me.

The first is okay comp wise and the clouds are what save the image. The second image is just a snapshot in my opinion.

Oh, and I'd have tried to get a bit more of an angle on the tree in the first one, so that the outline doesn't blend into the horizon lines.

You may want to try it again with a wider lens.

A picture without a theme or story is hard to digest.

#1 Looks a little underexposed to me.

I wouldnt say the composition is bad, but the scenes themselves aren't brilliant. You could make them more interesting by shooting them at dawn or sunset. Imagine the road with an epic sky or sun shining on. One of them orange sunsets lighting the road. Or the sun coming through the tree on #1.
