For some reason I'm not loving this shot but I can't put my finger on it. Any insight?

Cute :)
Maybe the empty space to the right of the bear? Try a different crop.

I'd like to see it without the flower thing.

Three big things that jumped out at me.

1.The prop is larger than the baby. In portraiture the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.

2. The high key clothing with the low key background is a no no. The keys should match.

3. Shooting up anyone's nostrils is another big no no.

Thanks Benji... I think you are hitting it now. The prop, good to know but we have pictures taken with this bear with my other two daughters. It was the first gift I ever bought my wife when we were dating. So good to keep in mind for the future but we wanted this specific shot. #2 is the real thing that is getting me. The background is like sucking the life out of everything else. Its like baby in a black hole :D

If the prop must be in the image how about laying the baby on it so her little body obscures some of it and it isn't so big!

As far as the background a pink sheet would be an inexpensive background and could be then used as a sheet later on. If you try it, back the pink sheet up with a white sheet under it then lay the baby on the floor about 24 inches out from the wall, and drape the background in an elongated "C" behind her then up the wall. Thumb tack the ends to the wall. You may need to light it separately to get it the right shade of pink.

It looks off to me because of the baby's face is smack dab center, rule of thirds might apply here.
