I'm hearing good things about the new Sigma 85/1.4. Anyone done any bokeh comparisons to the MF Vivitar/Rokinon 85/1.4 yet? Big price difference 'tween these lenses.

Only a difference of $600 between the Samyang and the Sigma, there is a bigger difference in price between the Sigma 85 1.4 and the Canon 85L =P

Anyways, I'd be interested in seeing a comparison as well, however the Sigma is kinda new... lets see if anyone steps up

It might be "only $600" in total, but you can get 3 samyangs for the price of one sigma 85 1.4.

Still, very curious to see... if only Samyang made electromagnetic apertures on a native canon mount... I'd be all over their lenses :)

It was a joke man... you can also get a Two Sigmas and a Samyang (or just 7 Samyangs) for the price of one Canon 85L. :p

From what I've seen of the Sigma it seems to have that biting sharpness of a Zeiss with the nice bokeh rendition of the Samyang. Possibly the best of both worlds.

sweet... Is there any macro manual focus that is cheap like with the vivitar vs sig or canon? I know you can always switch it to manual but i mean a cheap cheap alternative?

Iv done a very quick test, I think the results aren't too conclusive...atleast not for bokeh anyway.

What i can say though, and this is something i noticed before but didnt worry about it to much is that wide open the Samyang does over expose, or looks misty. but in other respects the image quality (i think) is pretty close.
The Sigma though (which iv only had for a few days) is wonderfull, focusing is spot on, quick and responsive (though not as quick as my 50mm Sigma), and the focusing in really why i have upgraded from my Samyang to Sigma.

It might be my eyes, but I'd say:

Sigma: Better contrast and slightly better sharpness
Samyang: Better bokeh (very slightly)

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

Yeah the Samyang bokeh seems more diffused. Too bad about the slight exposure variance but the contrast of the Sigma wide open looks very good and I'd honestly prefer that with slightly more definition in the out of focus area vs lack of punch in the contrast and more diffused out of focus area.

yep - but regardless of the outcome (of my very limited test) i think this does confirm that the Samyang is a fantastic lens for the price....just a shame that it has no Auto focus and in camera apature control.

Both of those features might drive the price of the lens up near the Sigma. :)

I'm impressed with the contrast and sharpness of the Sigma though. It beats the C/Y Planar 85/1.4 I had; at least below f2.8.
