Ok would someone mind helping me with Lightroom and Smugmug.

Heres the low down. I own LR3 and have a SM account. In the past I used this plug in made for LR by some guy named Jeff that allows you to upload photos from LR to SM etc. It worked fine until this guy now wanted donations to keep using his plugin.

Fortunatly, however LR3 now comes with built in support for SM, great right! Not so fast. Its a "publish service" and I can not figure out how to use it.

I set it up, but now dont really understand how to get photos from LR to SM via this so called publish service (whatever that means).

All I want to do is store photos on my hard drive and edit and post to SM the ones I like. Does anyone know how to do this or can explain in english what exaclt this publish service is and how it works?

Thanks ladies and germs.

Good morning Papa Bear, I'm Zac from SmugMug. My first question is do you have LightRoom 3? The SmugMug uploader only works with the 3rd edition of Lightroom.

If you have Lightroom 3, click the Setup button, then highlight SmugMug on the left side of the window, then click the Authorize button since you already have a SmugMug account. That should get you started :). We have a great help page with instructions and visual aids on the link below. That should get you the rest of the way.

I hope this helps!

Zac,

If you take a look at my 1sxt post I stated that I own LR3. I dont know why but LR# dosnt allow you to just drag files from the Library window and drop them into the SmugMug folders.

I dont know why but I've tried dragging from both the window (grid view) which seems to be what the image on your SM help link is doing, and Ive also tried dragging them from the bottom ribbon with no luck.

My SM is also not syncing anything with my account. It has imported all the gallery names but has not imported any of the pictures.

IDK

Can you send an email to our help desk? We can help you work out the connection problem between Lightroom and SmugMug there :). Just copy/paste the info you have on this thread into a new ticket.

Jeff's plugins have been donation ware for a while now. And he'll take a penny. I donated $10 I think a couple of times because I felt it was extremely useful. Not sure about now, I have a code, but built in support is nice. Haven't looked to see what advantages it offers.

But I digress, in addition to emailing smugmug, you might want to take a stab at their support forums on dgrin.com (external link). Bunch of helpful folks over there, and a better resource than here when dealing with smugmug.

The publish service is actually pretty easy to set up and use once you get the hang of it. Once you have it set up, it will add a Smugmug folder list to your folder panel on the left side. You go to your library and find the files you want to upload to which Smugmug gallery, and drag and drop them there. Once they are there, click on that smugmug gallery in lightroom and in the top right corner there will be a Publish Now button. Click that and let lightroom do its work.
You can tell Lightroom in the settings, what sizes and options you want by default for photos uploading to smugmug and it will always do that. Just as an FYI, I now use a tool called "Send to Smugmug" which allows you to right click and upload your photos directly from Windows Explorer to any of your Smugmug galleries. Check it out here http://shahine.com …software/send-to-smugmug/ (external link)
