Consider the Rebels are going 12-ish months upgrade cycle, it will be interesting to see what they're going to do with the sensor, since there's still currently no better crop sensor than this 18MP in Canon's line up.

Maybe they'll make it 18 months instead? Maybe they'll up the MP regardless?

Maybe it will come out with similar spec, a few trickle downs feature wise from the old 50D and of course it will have a multi angle rear screen, heck they may just put the rear screen from the 60D on it and thats it.

There is also a chance they may actually drop the MP count and go for larger more sensitive pixels to boost its low light/high ISO capabilities ( they did this with the G series)

Nah! They add swivel screen and maybe more AF points. But no flash commander.

Would the 3D take pictures in 3D?

The Rebel XS is going on 2.5 years now and looking pretty long in the tooth next to the D3000 and new D3100 from Nikon. Wouldn't be surprised if that gets replaced this spring instead of the still excellent T2i.

No, they bought a backlit sensor from Sony that only came in 10MP. That is the only reason they dropped the MP count. I think Canon has shown that perhaps pixel density is not very relevant with the latest 18MP sensors, which have considerably less high ISO noise yet almost double the density of just a couple years ago.

Even if they do, it is going to suck as bad as NIkon's does. These lenses are not smooth in contrast AF mode and they can't use Phase AF with the mirror up recording video. That's why sony did the pellicle mirror thing.

So you don't think Canon is going to do the pellicle mirror thing?

I hadn't considered that they would, but I guess anything is possible. I don't know if could convert over to an EVF, though, so I hope they don't go that route. Sony is reportedly doing a switchable EVF/OVF for their next one so that should be interesting.

We shall see :) I think some of the features of the A33 and A55 wouldn't be a bad idea in a xxxD series camera given the market group.

T3i = new XS line and 60D = replacement for the T2i. Thats my bet. The 7D replacement will be the new prosumer line.
