I dont own either one, but I went to a local camera shop yesterday to compare them. They are both great from what I can see. However since I will be doing more street traveling with mine, I like the 190cx, its a little smaller and lighter.

I own both. The 055 is big and heavy and great for studio work. It is also quite tall. The 190 is much smaller and lighter. It is what I take out hiking. Also, I am short- 5'6" and it is the perfect height without extending the center shaft at all.

We have had the 055proB tripods. It is a bit tall for the wife...and the 190 would be too short for me. Did not like the stability of the 190. Also found I do not use a center column. So for Christmas we are replacing those with carbon tripods.

Of the two mentioned...go with 055...in carbon if possible. Put a good head on it from RRS, Arcatech, Markins...etc.

Both good, one's larger/heavier/sturdier (055) and one's smaller/lighter/more compact (190). I own the 055 in both the aluminum and carbon fiber (4 section) variants; I just recently upgraded to the CF model because the aluminum one is simply too large and heavy to carry around regularly.

I didn't go with the 190 because it wasn't 'quite' tall enough, with the legs fully extended, for me.

What sort of usage are you looking to get out of it?

I have had my 190 CX Por3 in one hand while holding the 055 in the other and can tell you that if you are going to carry one on a hike there is no comparison which one I would pick, the 055 is much heaver and will go taller but is almost the same size collapsed. However the 190 is as stable as I would need with a pro body gripped and a medium lens doing video in a strong wind, which Ive done.

The 190 CX Pro 3 is my pick hands down, lighter is better as long as it can be stable and unless you have a very heavy body lens combo,....... no need for the overkill.
