Any thoughts on what I can do better with this workflow to achieve a vintage PP look? I use Aperture. This has some adjustment in curves of the green as well as a vignette, and a little bump in exposure level, with a decrease in contrast.

Nice effect, they certainly look vintage. Just curious, why would you want to create the old snap shot look?

Nostalgia. It also looks kind of cool.

Loose the vignette and it would be a lot better. Why do folks think that vignette comes with the vintage look? It very possibly could be attributed to lomography; lomography is way different than vintage though.

I am Henry. NOT Hank. And certainly not a length of rope tied in a knot. ;)

I would try adding some grain to it too.

Is there a separate tool for grain, or should I just add noise?

I've never used Aperture but yeah try adding some noise. If that's not an option in Aperture, try Gimp or Photoshop. See if you can add colorless noise, I kinda like that better than the noise that has color.

Never add color noise. It is the bad type of noise.

Also, the vignette. If you are going to keep it, it is too hard. Needs to have a much more broad feather. It is too noticeable in your corners.

As stated earlier though, I would completely loose it; looks bad.

To get an authentic reproduction I would study vintage images (of all types because there are many) and determine the exact color shift. Pull some images into Photoshop and check out the histograms. This looks more like a badly processed image than a vintage image to me.

Surf for some vintage images on line and note the kind of film that was used. You can dial in a vintage look based on film type and print paper if you examine the red, green, and blue channels. Developing an eye for print tone and look is something a good printer learns how to do. Nothing wrong with reverse engineering an image that has the look you want. Good luck and enjoy.

I get that 'aqua-marine' is vintage, but the shots appear to be a tad overboard in that color channel! Pretty sure you're onto something here, though.
