This was my first performing arts gig and I had a blast. I shot these with my 135L wide open. C&C please.

Hellooo!

Looks like you had really nice light, and you've used it well. That's the first C dealt with, now for the second:

The first one is very nice, the glittery background works very well - maybe clone out what could be some stage kit just under your dancer's legs and you're right there ...

Second one is a nice moment, could maybe be framed a fraction to the left to include all of the figure at the left of frame and again, you'd be there ...

Third one is nice.

Final image again could do with getting all of the right hand child in frame. Working with a prime can make framing tricky sometimes, especially where foot zoom isn't possible, but something to consider for the future - I see you're selling the lens used for these in search of a zoom, which would probably help with this issue.

Again, nice work and keep it up ...

Owain.

You got that right ;) I was only able to shoot from two seats during the show. First act was up top and second act was towards the bottom. My 135L sold before this gig and the 70-200 is on order. I was definitely desiring the zoom in this scenario.

Indeed, foot zoom really doesn't work when you're sat down, although in my time using primes I've been amazed at the difference even a little bit of 'back zoom' (or, if that isn't a real thing, simply leaning forwards or backwards in the seat) can make ... probably less effective at 135mm than 20 or 50mm but occasionally quite the revelation. That being said, I'm also planning to join the zoom ranks before my next lot of work in this area and expect that to be somewhat more of a revelation ...

Excellent shots - well done - especially for a first performing arts attempt!

What iso were you using in these conditions?
Have you done much post processing on them?
First one is an outstanding capture.

I found my metering at f/2, 1/320 sec, ISO 2000. Shooting in RAW allowed me to adjust my exposure in post with the minor lighting changes. The actual post processing is minimal:

Color correction aiming for true whites and realistic looking skin tones.
Bump in contrast through the tone curve
A small amount of noise reduction

Some very nice, some cropped of limbs in just the wrong places...

Thanks for the input. The cropped limbs happen when you're shooting with a prime and can't move around.

True, but I think (haven't tried) that #2, 3, 6 and 7 might be improved by cropping them.
