I had my first macro outing for some time today and found a few interesting things in my UK garden. Here are the highlights.
1. Globular springtail, Dicyrtomina saundersi
2. Here's another one - it looks like it has a smiling face!
3. This is a strange thing - I've no idea what it is, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be delighted to here them. It was springtail sized - I think this was at about 4X.
4. An incredibly small wasp (about 2mm), with a metallic-looking abdomen.
5. Next two owl midges, but I don't think they're the same species. Like many of the tinies, there are several very similar species, making identification next to impossible without dissection, and that's a step too far for me!
6.
7. Another springtail that had found a small hole and seemed happy to stay in it. I think the species is Isotomurus palustris.
All shots on 40D, 200ISO, with MPE-65 at f/10, and a diffused 430EXII on a bracket.
