You've got a lot more snow coming down in your part of the state than over here, David. But to think that yesterday at this time, it was 52 degrees and fixing to rain, now it's 26 and flurries. It's going to be a chilly one tonight, that's for sure.

Brentwood here. Missed the daylight today, will try my new 50D tomorrow to see what sort of trouble I can cause.

Just a few snow showers here near Chattanooga. The area is somewhat shielded from low-altitude precipitation clouds by the Walden Ridge. I've got a light dusting on the deck now. We'll see what tomorrow morning brings (besides very cold weather).

Here's what morning brought in southeast Tennessee...

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/photosbytom/image/131099733/original.jpg

Snow so deep that it almost buried the sprinkler nozzle! We got about 1/2 inch here, though it is pretty cold. 18 degrees when I got up. It's since risin to 19 degrees.

Well, it is a couple days later, and most of the snow is gone.

This is a little off topic, but the previous pictures, I took, during a snow storm, I thought, didn't turn out very well. After reading some helpful posts, I've come to realize those pictures are about as good as I'm going to get with the equipment I have.

Well I took some later afternoon shots of the same area using various ISO and apature settings, and this was as good as I could come up with.....

ISO 200, 1/40' shutter, F9

I feel better now. Decided to take my Canon Powershot SX 100 to compare. Took a bunch of the same shot as with the T2i, and there isn't any comparison.

Same ISO, Same shutter speed, but Apature was F4, which was better for the Powershot. This was the best I could do with the point and shoot.

It looks like your Powershot has two problems - lack of dynamic range, and overexposure. The sky is overexposed. It's pure white, with no color. The darker mid-tones are light, lacking in contrast. You can probably improve that shot in post-processing, but the T2i is much better.

Time to shoot in RAW, open the images up in the free Digital Photo Pro software that came with the T2i, and get a feel for what improves the images and what makes them worse. Experiment with your shooting and your processing.

Thanks, I didn't even think about post processing.... Just installed Digital Photo Pro yesterday, and haven't tried it yet.

Lets see what tomorrow brings....

As to the Power-Shot, the automatic settings looked worse than above, which is interesting.

To me, that's half the fun of taking pictures. The file that comes out of the camera is just the starting point.

I like this one a lot.It has a very analog and impressionistic fine art look to it, at least on my monitor. It evokes emotion.Would probably look awesome printed out on photorag 308 with a good profile.Well seen and captured.Congradulations and thanks for sharing.So.Cal. weather here is quite warm and boring.

Hello,

Wishing the weather is better where you are than it is here in Tennessee.

Anyone reading this, take some pictures of what the weather is in your neck of the woods! It would be interesting to see the varying types of weather around the world.

Just playing around with the new camera. Cranked up the ISO to 6400, shutter speed of 1/1000sec and Fstop of 14. Focal length 100mm.

Any recommendations to freeze the snow without making it look grainy like it does here?

Thanks for the complement. I thought the photo was kina bad, but it's all in the eye of the beholder :)

Check this out though - - - The branches, because of all the snow-flakes, almost have texture (oil painting effect)_:)

Cheers,

David
