Ditto...I don't get it, unless the OP has an extremely high opinion of himself and feels that his opinions are without question and beyond reproach. I just wonder what's behind the curtain? ;)

I dont think he is hiding anything here.
"Korrect" me if I'm wrong but I thought he said he was doing it as an exercise for himself to be able to look at other shots and pick on stuff to improve his own work. I think both the OP and folks posting pics are benefiting from this thread.

For those that don't quite "get" this thread its just a different take on critique - instead of posting the shot in a thread and seeing who turns up to comment and critique the OP here is offering his own input specifically for people to directly ask for this input. Of course the weight of that input will vary depending on the person its directed at. I don't see it as an ego trip nor running the risk that the OP's views are the only ones worth having - its just a direct way for people to get his input instead of reliance upon him maybe appearing in their crits thread.
Build that together with the fact that giving crits on others work helps to train and refine ones own critical eye and things help not just the receiver but also the giver as well.

Thus in light of all that I'll offer up a shot for critique; :)

His C&C is no more or less valid than many others I see offering it and he should at least get a little credit for the time he's trying to offer to help others improve.

The question is why he does not just critique other threads that are posted. Why should members post in this thread to get his critique. Well he answered that himself. He sometimes has a harsh way of saying things and in his own words members get pissy when he posts. This thread will only live as long as he makes his critique in a polite and constructuve manor. So far so good.

This comment is not to start a discussion here but to stop the questions why this thread exists. If anybody (including Korrector) has questions or comments to my post then send them to me in PM.

I don't think the sleepy head Prince is up yet by now. It is only 8am California time.

I say lets applaud K for starting this thread and lets have some interesting conversations about what we love to do. Its a great way to share ideas and we can all learn from the experience.

On the other hand "It's quite a <sic> odd photo" is not a critique that generates many learning oportunities, IMO. And there's too much of that kind of stuff from the OP.

One can offer steely eyed, emotionless critique without being brutish.

You do.

My $.02

Then why in the world can't we all further the discussion as long as it stays on the images and is not rude. If you believe in the work and have a clear understanding of what it is then you should be able to defend it in an intelligent and systematic way. I think K brings a good eye and some interesting comments into the mix. I do believe if we all stay open these kind of situations are great for everyone to grow and learn. Unfortunately they sometimes turn into personal attacks and such but as long as the comments stay on the work and clearly stated reasons why something is or isn't blah blah then it can be a great thread. I'm an optimist. ;)

I also wanted to say that many photographers both new and old salts are chasing the one great photo idea. In my opinion what makes a great photographer is not one great photograph but many photographs that are not only great but look like what a photograph that that photographer would take. One great photograph will no more make you a great photographer than one great at bat will put you in the hall of fame or one great song makes you a great musician. Its about work that not only looks like your work (style) but also has a little bit of you in it.

Many don't get Weston. But you have to look at what great vision he had as an artist and sometimes not look at just one piece. Its like looking at one piece of a puzzle and missing the entire picture. Weston had such strong vision you can pretty much tell one of his photographs no matter what the subject matter, lens or camera used. His peppers looked like nudes. His nudes looked like clouds, His clouds looked like his still life's and his still life's looked like nudes. Now that is vision.

I remember when I was younger I was a member of a professional photography association. THey had monthly photography contests. There was on judge that would actually measure the eyes to see if the fell on the 1/3 line (rule of thirds) in a portrait and would dismiss any photograph that didn't stand up to that test. What happens when you only take the mechanics into account when judging a photograph you sometimes miss the most important parts. You miss things like intent, what does the image say about the photographer because many great photographs are as much about who pushed the button than it is about the subject and can the subject actually be something more than the obvious? If you are only looking at the surface or the mechanics you focus on such a small piece that you can thus miss the real picture.

I say lets applaud K for starting this thread and lets have some interesting conversations about what we love to do. Its a great way to share ideas and we can all learn from the experience.

A couple of others that also touch on what i was saying in the third paragraph.

"There are no rules and regulations for perfect composition. If there were we would be able to put all the information into a computer and would come out with a masterpiece. We know that's impossible. You have to compose by the seat of your pants."
Arnold Newman

"There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs."
Ansel Adams

I think the intent of this thread was made quite clear by Korrector in his original post. To paraphrase, "if you want MY honest critique and are brave enough to post pics, I'll give it to you" His advice is well thought out, and often very valid. He isn't saying he is the boss of the photo world, he is just saying he will give you his take on it, without false praise. It is SUPPOSED to be dominated by his comments, but hasn't once said "stay out of my thread, I"M giving advice here..." I'm a huge fan of Korrector's comments, and I learn things when I read his posts. I hope he continues with this thread. the time and effort he puts in to it is valuable to all of us, pro and newbie, if we have the guts to follow it. Airfrogusmc said it all very well.

After reading some of the comments here, it seems that this post is dominated by the OP. To me it's unfair and pointless bcoz' this forum is shared by all to critique. Right? :)

this is a public forum. I don't think I have to remind you that it's all fair game when it comes to posting whatever you wish within the rules. I am offering my personal reviews of people's photos. What's there not to get? Share your opinions on various photography too.

Folks, just t clear some things out -

I am offering critique to help my own critical eye to help my own development. The reseason being so is that it is a win-win situation for me and for those who are posting their photos. I am basing my opinions based on my own preferences and experiences only - 'how I would have done it, if you will".

I don't think of myself as the alfa and the omega of photography and I have never implied this. I struggle with my models, photoshop and composition just like everyone else. My opinions are true
only for me. Every piece of advice or critique I offer could be completely wrong, but it is aslo could be helpful to anyone who willing to take it and use it to their benefit.

are we cool? ;)
