Hi all,
It's been cold and grey here this week, so our gallery picks were mostly high ISO, low-light shots. But we photograph our birds everyday regardless, and still like to share the best of what we get no matter.
We hope you enjoy these,
Kenn

By the way, can you tell the difference between a Dark-eyed Junco and the "slate" variety? I had no idea there was a difference, but I notice some of mine are definitely darker than others. Yours looks to be the lighter variety, so I thought I'd ask. Love the Blue Jay pose. Wish mine would come closer. I haven't gotten around to putting out peanuts yet. http://throughmyeyes-choppography.blogspot.com/

And the high iso you speak of is not visible anywhere. Thanks everybody, I believe these are the only kinds we see here in the mid-west US, but there are some lovely hooded ones in the western part of the country called Oregon Juncos. And by all means, if you want your Bluejays to come close, get out those peanuts! Stan and Levina - About the high-ISO thing... We really just can't use high ISOs with our small-sensor cameras. I generally use NR on the backgrounds only, and this can sometimes allow us to keep a well-exposed shot up to ISO 400, but we try to shoot at ISO 200 and below whenever possible. When it's dark and dreary out, shutter speeds fall, ISOs go up, and controlling the noise gets much harder. I'm probably over-sensitive to it, but I'm glad if it's not too noticeable in these. Thanks again to all for your comments, Kenn Kenn & Temple

I have no berries up here on the shore this year... the mountain ash trees are all bare, so I am bummed out that it will be few grosbeaks and waxwings. I have had more than one "bleak week"... I was out the last couple days in -20 to -30 wind chill and just my chickadees and RbNuthatches were around.... db Don1 wrote in post #11445788 Beautiful shots Kenn.
