Has anyone switched over to these from stock screws?

I know some brands actually use a similar screw from the factory. I was wondering if anyone has switched over to these? I ask because I'm considering a Looma Loop or Black Rapid strap. Note that I do NOT intend to hang my camera from the d-ring, I simply want to be able to move from the strap to the tripod without having to get an allen wrench as I would currently have to do. I would keep my same QR plate and clamp and just swap out the little allen screw for something like that.

Thoughts?

It's safer just getting the black rapid product, but it only works with certain manfrotto tripod plates where you can remove the original d loop bolt.

I don't have a manfrotto tripod so that does me no good. Are you saying you don't believe that screw will hold my tripod plate to the body when I'm using the tripod?

I'd bet it would hold the plate just fine, but the weak part of this appears to be the tiny little screws that hold the fold-down ring on.

I wouldn't trust several pounds of camera/lens to little screws the size of what hold the arms on my glasses!

But they wont be bearing any load (especially not the weight of the camera). When the r-strap is on, the entire plate and d-screw would be off. When the plate was put on, the main screw would be bearing the load, not the tiny little screws.

Cool, they are cheap, probably from China, like they use cameras too....

If one should fail and your camera hits the ground and breaks, please let us know, that way we will not have to buy one to save a couple of bucks.

I'll be waiting by the computer.

It shouldn't be a problem, provided your not hanging the camera of the d-screw, which is what everybody is worried about.

If your just using it to connect the the tripod plate then it should be ok, unless it shears off and separates the plate from the camera.

The screw that is holding the plate on now is made in china, as I suspect most of yours are too. But I was actually hoping for a better version. Similar but from a known brand.

I use only Slik tripod gear, all made in Thailand out of pot metal:D

Seriously, it should work for what you want to use it for, how were you going to remove the existing bolt ?

I have a Benro, the plate has slots so you have a little play placing the plate, but each end of the slots are threaded and you can simply thread the bolt out. Once you get it in, you have to be in just the right spot to get it out, but it is designed to go in and out.
