changing cameras, input please :)

so i bought my t2i when it first came out, i have took about 7,000 photographs.
my gear is t2i, Chinese grip and battery, tammy 17-50. efs 18-55, ef50 1.8.

I hardly ever use the video mode, and i am hating the plastic toy feeling of the camera.
The grip helps it out alot!

im planning on selling it,
thinking of going 50D, and keeping the tamron 17-50
40D may be do-able also, with extra money towards a 85mm 1.8

or selling everything (but the 50mm) and going with a 5D(original), or maybe a 1DS.

any body I get im going to put a grip on it, except the 1ds(obviously)

what would you recommend?

7D is out of the question, to much $$ 60D, possibly, dont need movie mode and not digging the flip lcd.

edit: have a 2 flash shoot through umbrella set up in the mail. 430ex and yn460II

If you don't want video, I'd say the 50D is a lot of camera for not a lot of money =) The only place you would lose out is the 7D/60D/T2i have better higher ISO performance.

A factory refurb 7D body from Canon, w/ a 90-day warranty is $1087.20 + tax. That works out to ~$150 more than a 60D, for a LOT more camera.

where do you find the refurb 7d, at canon direct i cant seem to find one for less then 1400

Just because u dont want video doesnt mean u cant consider a camera with that ability. U arent paying extra 4 the video function. 60D I see has less noise than 50D and features it doesnt have though not micro af adjustments. But 60D has built-in wireless flash control that would cost u $230 to buy separately. 50D u are buying 2+ year old technology and image processing.

A 60d or 50d would work well for you given your budget. However, unless you really can't stand your t2i, which is an excellent camera, I'd save up for a more significant upgrade.

Wow, given the lack of a plan, I would urge you to take a breath and look at things in a more systematic manner. All you've told us is that you dont like the plastic body and sort of describe a camera inferiority complex. Where is the t2i failing you now? What do you want to do that you arent getting the results you wish to get. I understand gear lust, I have it bad. But the range of options you list lead me to believe you just want different.

If you get too hung up reading and loose yourself in the xxD or xD forums, you'll end up hating any Rebel for that reason alone (because it's plastic body) but is mostly a psychological issue if you ask me. Do a little research and you'll see that the plastic used on the Rebels is very high grade, very durable and for most people more than enough unless you plan on driving nails with the thing. But as you said....... "feeling", is how it feels for you that matters. Think very hard about it because none of the older xxD bodies will perform as good in low light and I think the overall IQ on the new sensors (T2i/60D/7D) is evidently superior to the older technology out there. I would say try the 60D but it has a plastic body also.

t2I is great camera, but the feel, not so good, and controls are slow,

@60D good camera, but i think it feels worse then the t2i,

ive used 40d before and like the feel and controls alot better, wish i knew about hte CLP before getting the t2i, haha

I just bought a 7D body at Future Shop for $1429...plus tax

A refurbished 7D can be yours for $1,399 tax free from Adorama if you live outside NY. So the difference is $500, not $700+.

Super AF system previously only found in 1D series
Weather Resistance
Better Flash Commander (debatable, but the system is NOT the same in the 60D as the 7D)
8FPS shooting
Orientation linked AF Points
Various AF point options
CF Card instead of SD (debatable, but it is a plus in my mind)

Now if you use all that like I do, then yes, it is well worth the price, if you use none of that, then it is a total waste of money.
