Thank you
you were the most helpful person, 7D on the way,
t2I is great camera, but the feel, not so good, and controls are slow,

@60D good camera, but i think it feels worse then the t2i,

ive used 40d before and like the feel and controls alot better, wish i knew about hte CLP before getting the t2i, haha

Glad I could help. Unfortunately, I had my dates crossed, and mine won't be here until tomorrow.

I just bought a 7D body at Future Shop for $1429...plus tax

If it was worth an extra ~$350 to have a brand new one vs. a Canon refurb through the CLP, good for you.

muskyhunter wrote:
I got my 60D for $900 tax included so is the 7D worth $700+ more? I dunno.......

If you get a refurb 7D through the CLP, it's only ~$250 different.

themadman wrote:
A refurbished 7D can be yours for $1,399 tax free from Adorama if you live outside NY.

And you can get that same refurb 7D through the CLP, w/ a 90-day warranty for $1087.20 + your state's sales tax + a broken Canon P&S (can be had for $10 - $20 if you don't have one).

Mine worked out to ~$1163, that's almost $240 cheaper than the same camera through Adorama.

7D, BG-E7, BGE2x2 (both FS), 17-55 f/2.8 IS, 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS (FS), 50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8, 70-200 f/2.8L IS Mk I, 70-300 f/4-5.6L, 550EX, Kenko Pro300 1.4xTC

You are right, if I decide to throw my ethics out the window and buy a broken Canon PnS on eBay for the purposes of lying to CLP, then you are saving some money... or am I?

I get 5% cash back from Mr. Rebates on eBay up to $50 per purchase.
I also get 8% eBay Bucks for using "Bill Me Later."
I also get the standard 2% eBay Bucks, which is doubled on the 7D from Adorama (4%).

So I get $167.88 of eBay Bucks and $50 from Mr. Rebates I get a total of $217.88 off of my $1,399 purchase. Did I mention Adorama gives me a 12 month warranty over the Canon's 90 day warranty?

So I pay $1,181.12, keep my ethics, and get a 1 year warranty. :p So you come out with $18 more in your pocket, but with less personal integrity and less warranty.

so i bought my t2i when it first came out, i have took about 7,000 photographs.
my gear is t2i, Chinese grip and battery, tammy 17-50. efs 18-55, ef50 1.8.

I hardly ever use the video mode, and i am hating the plastic toy feeling of the camera.
The grip helps it out alot!

I have Tli and took about 30 000 pictures on it already. I'm keeping it in lunch bag and taking it almost everywhere. The plastic holds it very well. I could barely see any wear and it has no starches. I get it covered once with melted marshmallow and it was no problem to clean it.
I’m looking to add 5D (but not for “big thing” feelings, nor for “better controls”), I have seen some of them with same amount of clicks as I have on my Tli and they looks like crap, because of lost paint on it.
7D looks as plastic as my 500D, IMHO.

Except it is magnesium... lol

Not to say one is better than another material, but it isn't plastic.

I knew which material is 5D and 7D bodies are. I was just talking about how camera feels for me to comment on OP message.

It was big thread at this forum about magnesium and plastic, I’m not so convinced about magnesium after reading of this thread.

I may get less warranty than you (3-mth vs. 12-mth), but I'm not sure how I have any less personal integrity. I own a broken PowerShot A510 that I bought new. I also don't have to jump through all kinds of hoops, and more importantly, I don't have to deal w/ flea-bay. :D

I am sorry, I wasn't referring to "you" specifically, please don't take it that way. After reading what I wrote, I can easily see how I was coming that way. I was referring to if I were to do it that way since I don't have a broken Canon PnS. It becomes combersome to type "he who buys a camera of eBay" or "she who follows the advice of ___" so I just say "you" to distinguish the "I" that follows my advice over the "I" that buys a PnS off eBay to use for CLP.

Anyways...

Clp for 1080 bucks worth compared to 60d
All are great cameras.
nothing wrong with plastic... just preferance.
I got a 04 Mustang gt ... they have plastic intake manifolds lol
I bought a working one and broke it for this as my pbs is still good and useful. They not going fix it and resale it. They going scrap it. Eh recycle it. I see no ethical problem doing that. It helps the enivornment cuz that 4mp pbs going end up in a landfill or let clp recycle it

Why not an outright trade for a 50D on the marketplace and skip the cash intermediate entirely?

Actually, you were directing it at me. You quoted my post and opened with "You are right..."

I also don't see how it's an ethics issue if you send them a broken camera that wasn't yours. Have you been a Canon customer in the past? Will you continue to purchase Canon equipment? If you answer Yes to these questions, what difference does it make if you send them someone else's broken P&S?

I quoted you in referring to the method as it applies to "me" or a third party, not you. I have bolded all the mentions of "I" and "me" to highlight this. I did not intend for it to mean you did this, simply that you are suggesting this method.

As for ethics, I don't believe this is the place to do an in-depth look into them, lets just say your code of ethics seem different than mine. If you wish to continue this discussion, feel free to PM me.

When you quote someone and open your post with "You are...." it's a pretty strong indication that you're directing it at the person that you quoted.

As far as the ethics discussion, I didn't realize that you were in law school, that explains things a bit. Even if I didn't have a broken Canon P&S, I would have no qualms about buying a broken one and sending it in, to qualify for the CLP deal. I've got Canon gear that is older than you are, that I bought new. I've been a loyal Canon customer for many years. I have purchased at least 10 Canon cameras over the years. If Canon wants me to send in a broken P&S, that they are going to recycle, just to qualify for a 'loyalty' discount, I would have no problem buying a broken one for a couple of dollars and sending it in. I'm also not sure how I would be 'lying' to Canon. When I called in to order my 7D, the rep didn't ask me anything other than what camera would I be sending in. Not was I the original purchaser. Not when did I buy it. Not what is wrong with it. Not anything other than what model it was.

Would it be different if I had never owned a Canon camera and bought a broken Canon P&S just to take advantage of the CLP? I suppose so, but who would you consider the more 'loyal' Canon customer, someone like me, who has purchased numerous Canon cameras over the years, and may not happen to have a broken P&S laying around, or the person who was given a Canon P&S as a gift a few years ago, has never purchased a Canon camera, and decides to send their P&S in to take advantage of the CLP program?
