Waxwings are extremely rare in the UK and only visit when the weather is particularly cold, so I am told. A guy from work said he has seen some about half a mile from my house so he took me over but none were about. On Saturday I got a phone call telling me there were 30 in a tree over the road. I jumped in the car and shot round to the tree where they were known to be.

Here are the results. I had to crank the ISO up on the &D to get a decent shutter speed but still very happy with the results.

Nice shots, its always great when waxwings turn up :) We had a flock of about 80 in our garden a month ago, they aren't that rare up here compared to down your direction. I see them every second or third winter.

Worth the dash! Great stuff!

We had a flock of 100+ reported in the town centre but as walking was too far (and difficult in two feet of snow) and driving was impossible, I'll have to wait for another year!

If it moves, snap it - and if it doesn't move, snap it twice just in case it does move!

Are these cropped much? There doesn't seem to be much feather detail.
