Hi,
I recently set my 7d up to shoot infra red with my 430EXii which I did ok. I went to use it the other day and couldnt get my on board fllash to pop up to trigger the external flash.
When I go into my cameras menu my flash control is set to enable but when I go through the rest of the menu I get "This menu cannot be displayed. External flash is attached" This is when I have no flash either attached or switched on in the vicinity of my camera.
I can get the 430's red blinking light ok, the pop up will just not operate even if I put camera in full auto and press the button to operate the on board flash. Any ideas anyone, Ive probably done something really stupid
Thanks

Ian

Whenever things like this happen I reset to factory defaults on the camera and it works again. If I ever did that and it didn't work I would send it in for repair.

when i first got my 7d the pop up flash was faulty and wouldn't trigger speedlites. Turns out it was a faulty board and $1000 it was working (import, no warranty!) I hope yours isn't a similar issue!

Ah problem solved !! Thanks both for your suggestions, I did reset it to factory settings with no avail, so I had a look at the rails the flash slides into on the hotshoe. I got a very small spectacle screwdriver, pushed the right hand rail down but couldn't hear any small click of a micro switch. I wiggled it gently and blew hard at the same time. When I tried the pop up it went up immediately.
It is under warranty so I'll be checking its working correctly regularly in the next few months, any more probs and I'll send it back to Canon.
Cheers
