In other words if in doubt don't use it. Scan all the code before uploading and using a theme, if you can't do that find someone that can. WordPress is the most used Blogging engine on the 'Net so no surprise it's now being attacked in such a way.
These aren't simple hacks but sophisticated and well executed code that once enabled will compromise your server.
