Does anyone know if the hood from a version I 70-200 2.8 will work on the new version II of this lens? (Canon)

In other words, are they interchangeable?

Thanks

(oops, sorry for typo in title :o)

The Canon website lists ET-86 as the hood for the 70-200 f/2.8 I and ET-87 as the hood for the 70-200 f/2.8 II. What it doesn't say, though, is whether the hoods are interchangeable.

I guess it'll take someone with both, to try a switch-a-roo, and see if they securely mount.

The number in the hood designations typically has been the diameter of the bayonet fitting for the hood, so I'd expect that the two are incompatible.

I would agree with this.

The hood comes with this lens, btw.
