Hi all,

I guess the topic is pretty self explanatory. I've got a few photos up at Alamy (literally a few), and my efforts at stock have fallen by the wayside recently. I'd like to take steps back into that world to see if it is something I mgiht enjoy. Does anyone have any good resources or books they might recommend? Thanks!

Search for "stock photography". You should find quite a selection.

Dan Heller's website is okay... He offers his views on the subject, some good ideas and a business model that works for him. There are others.

I tend to look toward the people who are acknowledged as among the top stock photographers in the world... The photogs who make 6 and 7 figure incomes off stock sales. Most actually offer stock as a sideline and a secondary revenue stream from work they are already doing.

Check out Bill Bachmann's website. He's among the top five or six stock photographers in the world, but he as always promoted himself as an "assignment, travel & liftestyle" photographer, not as a "stock photographer". Yet he employs a couple people full time just editing, keywording, uploading and selling/fulfilling his stock through six different websites. If you ever have a chance, go to one of his seminars. Very eye-opening.

There is a brand new book out, "Shooting Stock". Have no idea who wrote it. I saw a favorable review of it a few days ago.

You must be joking.

Why would he be kidding. Seems like a sincere question to me.

I did two searches at Amazon.com and the first one was for Stock Photography (external link). The second one was for Photographers Market (external link). There is some duplication in the two searches. The photographer's market tends to list various companies and what they buy which in essence is stock photography.

There is money to be made in stock if you shoot the right stuff but it is certainly not easy. I wouldn't expect to get rich doing it.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Almost anything you can find from Jack Hollingsworth is worth reading. Even just his twitter account is a huge wealth of knowledge. Just Google his name and you will get a ton of results dealing with stock photography.
