Finch ID

My wife took this shot and has been on me to find out what it is as I've never seen this one before. I've been teaching her how to use the other 350D I got and she's starting to get some good shots with it. This shot she took when we were at the Zoo the other day and there was no information to tell her. Anyway, she's quite keen to know the birds ID if anyone knows it please.

Nice shot of a pretty bird but out of my realm for ID

I think it's a red-cheeked cordon bleu waxbill (what a mouthfull ).

What a beautiful little bird! Nice detail and focus, especially considering the surroundings.

This appears to be a Red-cheeked Cordonbleu Uraeginthus bengalus, a type of waxbill. From what I read, they are native of Africa.

Thanks all for the comments, made the wife feel quite good as it's one of her best shots so far.
