I just found this today, looks like a good resource. I too just bought the 9500 and with color management everything seems spot on.

Yeah, I've been aware of that resource for a long time. It still amazes me how people who invest in expensive equipment never think of going to the manufacturer's website for help and information.

You'll notice the scarcity of info about the 9000 mkII... no tutorials, no profiles. It's ironic because the people who purchase the 9000 mkII seem to be the same people who need the most help.

First, regarding the Ilford paper. In addition to the ICC profile, Ilford provides a media type setting and other pertinent printer setting instructions. You should have gotten a PDF file along with you ICC profile download.

This info is also coded into the ICC profile file name. PPPGIIn means the media type setting is Photo Paper Plus Glossy II and NO printer color management. Ilford generally recommends Relative Colormetric unless the colors are very saturated and vivid, then try Perceptual.

In your printer settings dialog, you should go to the Main tab, and under Color/Intensity, select Manual. Click the Set button and in the next window, under Color Correction, select None.

For any other color issues, you should start with a properly calibrated monitor and softproof before printing.

i cant find this in the printer settings on a Mac. I didnt install the driver from the CD but from the driver from Canon website. I wonder if that is why. In the print settings I can only change the paper size and there are no Main tab or any tabs.

We don't have those settings. Are you using the the plugin from Photoshop or the stand alone Canon software? Make sure you get the latest updates for Mac on Canon's site. Once your in printer settings you have a drop down menu that allows to change settings, default is Layout but under that list are all yours different areas to change. When you using the appropriate ICC profile for the intended paper some of the options you will not be able to change, as in Color Options.

I think I remember reading somewhere that 10.6 and Photoshop CS4/5 does not allow for the option of No Color Management, giving the user the ability to completely take over managing the colors as they see fit. If you use the Canon Pro plugin in PS then you have additional color options to tweak if you like.

Thanks Shasta. I'm printing the photo from Photoshop - File - Print if that is what you mean by plugin from Photoshop. I just installed the driver from Canon website just 2 days ago so I think I have the 10.6. I'll take a closer look when I get home. Thanks

I think he's referring to the Canon Easyphoto Print Pro plugin for Photoshop. You have to explicitly install that to use it, and I find it pretty useful.

I have that installed as well but from my one time experience, Canon Easyphoto Print Pro prints darker than the method I posted above. I was curious to compare the difference between the two so I printed the same photo and I prefer File-Print directly from Photoshop but it could be that I didnt have the settings set up correctly.

What OS, what printer driver?

PSCS4/5 and OSX 10.5+ work together: If you set PS to manage colors, the color management is switched off in the printer driver automatically.

Works well on OSX 10.5.8 / PSCS4 and my R2880 with the latest drivers.

Not all is good though for Epson printers on 10.6 it seems: http://www.profilesbyrick.com/Mac106_workaround.htm (external link)

Haven't bothered to try it yet. (Only running 10.6 on my MBP)

Should not be a problem with Canon printers AFAIK.

OSX 10.6.6 and driver 10.36.3.

Thanks. I'm going to read this and from more sources until I get this thing right.

I did a rather large print last night and very pleased with the results using the Pro plugin in PS, it was dead on to my screen. One thing I did find, in OS X you have to go through a bit of a back door to see your ink levels. Instead of going through the Options and Supplies link on the printers preference panel, you instead double click the printer, click on the Utility button, not the Ink Level button, this in turn open up Canon's IJ Printer utility giving you access to all the maintenance features. Clicking on Ink Levels or Option and Supplies with tell you no information is available. A bit quirky but its there at least.

This printer is truly a professional piece, amazing color reproduction, using Ilford's Galerie Gold Silk with it's ICC profile.
