Some critique on the shot and the PP. This is from my second newborn shoot ever. Thats just an excuse in case everyone thinks it sucks. Original and final edit.

I think the face is a bit to bright. and you have lost the catch light in the eyes with your editing

Thanks. I thought the catch light was taking away from the eyes since it was made from the white sheet more so than the actual light. Should I make the fake catch light a bit larger perhaps?

I'm currently pulling my hair out over printing. My prints are too dark. I find that this is a common problem so Ive made everything on my screen brighter than it should be. I ordered some unfixed prints from Mpix and tried to match the darkness to my screen. Then I went back to this shot and made it look right. When I view it on other monitors though, it does appear a bit bright.

Thanks for the critique!

are you printing at home? If you are sending them out see if you can download the printer profile from your printing service.

Is your monitor calibrated?

The hair line looks unnatural, did you clone or dodge around it?

Im not on a calibrated monitor, no. Im printing from Mpix but Im not sure the printer profile would help. Im using a laptop and the variance in view angle is HUGE. Im thinking that my next purchase has to be a good monitor. I wanted to get some more lighting/studio equipment but I dont see the point if I cant produce good prints.

I had to clone around some of it yes. You can see in the original some of the hair was off the top of the shot. Which part of it looks unnatural to you?

I worked with the original image, the quality is very low since I copied it from here

thanks =)

selective color to make the backdrop whiter
tighter crop,
I used curves to bring down the redish/yellow tones in the skin.
clone tool to get rid of the baby fuzz on the forehead,
then slected the body and used levels to brighten up a bit,
a little bit of skin smoothening,
soft white brush on the eyes to whiten the catch lights and selective sharpen on the pupil.
then used curves to adjust the brightness down a little. I tend to edit my pictures a little bright.

New skin tones are terrible, check these links https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=591549

Which skin tones? The original edit or the most recently posted edit? Im still working on a bad laptop monitor so I cant tell.

Also, if youre speaking ofthe new edit, what do you think of the original?
