Pixma 9500 Print Sizes?

I have been checking out the Pixma 9500 and it looks good except for some comments I've run into pertaining to paper/print size limitations. If I understand correctly margin requirements set by Canon make it impossible to print and 8x10" image on 8.5 x 11" paper. Ditto with 13x19" on 13x19" paper. What goes here as it seems odd that you would be required to use oversize paper to produce these standard image sizes? Am I misunderstanding something?

Thanks

You must be misunderstanding something. I have the Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II printer, and I print 8x10's on 8.5x11 paper all the time. Just did one this morning, in fact! It's also possible to print borderless 13x19 prints, but with certain Canon photo paper, Canon enforces certain border sizes by default. I've had to fart around a bit to work around these in some cases. I'm also using third party photo paper most of the time now.

I'd just heard someone mention online that Canon insists on a 35mm border on prints, sometimes greater. From what you say it sounds like this has more to do with the paper than with any mechanical limitation of the printer itself? How many Canon papers require this border? And do all third party papers allow you to print without this margin?

Have you been happy with the 9500 printer?

Thanks!

I think someone is giving you a boatload full of $#!+. The printer doesn't care if the paper is bigger than the project, it will also not care if the paper is smaller, it'll just print borderless and crop what's outside of the boundaries.
