I am curious how much a fashion photographer's rate is it to do catalog shoots and consultation.

A clothing company approached me and asked me to do fashion catalogs and consultation 2 times a week. They said they are interested in doing a long term business relationship with me... shooting catalogs and developing ideas and shoots to sell their clothing line.

How much is the rate usually? per hour? per week? per month?

Please help

thanks

I'd say it's extremely subjective. How much can you squeeze out of them? What price would make you happy?

Why don't you start with what would make you happy...and then go down to the point at which it's not even worth it...tell them the make you happy price and hopefully you'll be able to settle in between.

thanks Beau

The clothing company wanted to do a long term working relationship with me. I did a job for them as a freelance photographer for a day shooting catalog and charged them $50/hr. I signed a release form too giving them ownership to all the images. I only shoot and they do the rest..post production and all. They use it primarily at there website. I think they liked what I did for them and wanted me to do it more 2 times a week . I showed them my edited version of the pics to and they like it... and wanted me to do consultation. BTW... I bring my own portable equipment with me and the job is like a 2 hour drive. Obviously, I am so new at this and really value this chance for me to get my foot in the door. It is my dream job as you might say. I would love to work with them but of course, I also have bills to pay. thank you for your time.

Phil

Always avoid handing over copyright of your images - rather use an image license and charge based on the intended end use of the image. Here's a starting point: http://www.photographersindex.com/stockprice.htm (external link)
