I took this photo yesterday afternoon. The photo was a Raw image, so I did the normal adjustments and saved the photo as a JPEG.

Then I opened the photo back up and adjusted the levels, the contrast (a large amount), I also lightened the photo quite a bit, saturated the heck out of it and then sharpened the daylights out of the photo.

What I came up with I really like. So does my wife and a bunch of my friends. In fact, some people have told me the photo actually looks like a painting.

(The photo is of a Railroad bridge and the muddy flood waters of the river that flows under it. That is why the brownish tint to the water.)

Please let me know what you think of my "creativity".

what you've done looks great. The problem with the shot is that the light was really 'blahhhh' when the pic was taken. Sometimes there isn't much more you CAN do with an image. It kind of looks like Ohio where in winter, everything is a shade of gray or brown!

Might want to post the original in the RAW and processing forum and give others a shot at a 'creative edit' so you can compare. Remember to have 'image editing' enabled in your profile.

Thank you Sir! The weather was very nasty at the time the photo was taken. We have had as much as 6" of rain come down in 24 hours. The river under the bridge was at flood stage, so I was not able to move to the right any more to get rid of the tree branches that are on the bottom left hand side of the photo.

After making the 'basic' adjustments in RAW, save the file as a 16-bit TIFF. Unlike jpeg, the TIFF is a "lossless" image. Make all your creative adjustments to the TIFF file and save as a 'master' TIFF file(once you're satisfied with it) with all layers intact...keeping the layers intact will let you go back later if you wish to make any minor tweaks. If you need a jpeg file, simply open the master TIFF, make any size adjustments, convert it to 8-bit, and save as jpeg. With this workflow, you'll have the RAW file, a master TIFF file with all adjustment layers, and any jpegs that you spawn off the TIFF. Never save a a jpeg BEFORE making your creative adjustments...the compression losses will degrade the image quality.

PS The bridge looks like it has a left-to-right upwards tilt. Also, clone out what appears to be a sign on the right side of the image, as well as the out-building (or simply crop it out) that's also on the right side.
