We've had several freezes thus far this year, so imagine my surprise when I found this automeris io caterpillar on one of The Wife's rose bushes. I shot it using a 5D II and a Nikon AI-S 50mm 1.8 manual focus with a reversing ring and a cheap Vivitar 2x telextender. ISO 400, aperture f/8, shutter speed 1/100. Lighting was heavy shade late in the day, so I set up a 580EX II with a Fong diffuser 8" to the right (firing straight up, only getting spill on the subject) triggered by a CyberSync and a reflector to the left. Obviously, I'm just a novice at macro, so any comments and suggestions are welcome.
