I'm possibly going to be DoP'ing a documentary of a DJ, and one of the clubs he is a regular at has a lot of blacklights as well as the occasional strobe light, depending on location. I was wondering if anyone has had experience shooting video with the 7D specifically, but any advice is better than no advice :D, about how I can go about shooting under these conditions.

I'll definitely be at 1080p 24-30fps if that helps.

Thanks.

no advice with black lights...but do watch out for laser lights zapping your sensor

"Blacklights" are fluorescent tubes that do not have the fluorescing powder coating inside, so they emit at the deep violet end of the spectrum and into the ultraviolet, which can excite the fluorescing additives in detergent powders, making white clothing appear to glow. Our eyes and a digital camera sensor differ most in their colour response at this end of the spectrum, and you'll probably find that the camera renders the light an unremarkable blue, losing much of the "blacklight" effect. The lights themselves will quickly overexpose if in the frame, further losing the uv effect.

The only thing you can do is give it a go and see how it turns out. My experience is based on using "uv" leds, so not exactly the same thing, but the same wavelength.

Mark.

If it causes an issue, try a UV filter :p
