So I use my laptop for photo editing but it has huge limitations. The viewing angle changes the colors and brightness with even the slightest movement. Anyway, if I get a new monitor (a good one obviously) is that all I am going to need? Will my laptop be able to output the necessary colors and information needed to calibrate the monitor when using a calibration kit? Im tired of my prints not being what I want them to be. Thanks much!

Monitor and calibration kit are a must, but we're not psychic... Please tell us about your laptop.

Ah sorry. I thought I had read that most modern laptop video cards were capable of photo editing. I dont know a whole lot about it though as Im not much of a computer guy. Its a Compaq Presario, about 2 years old. Not sure about the video card brand or type. I couldnt find it anywhere in the display settings. Thanks for the reply though. :D

I have a 13" MBP and I was going to get a 27" iMac before I went back to Uni.

I decided to save the money and just bought a 24" monitor, and calibrated the two. A great purchase, and saved a small fortune.

You should be just fine with a basic monitor. Plenty of IPS paneled monitors available for about $250-$500 USD.

Excellent. Thanks Chas! Its so frustrating working on a photo not knowing what it is going to look like in print.
