I can imagine the 135mm but not the zoom. What's the point of a mf zoom... iq snoobs would want primes, and lazy people will want af

Well I don't put Zeiss at the top of my list but, I do prefer primes myself. Keep an open mind that zooms have there use as well.

I have a contax/yashica zeiss zoom, 35-70 f/3.4, adapted for EOS. I love it! I am wondering if they are going to make this lens with the ZE mount. It's light, the push pull design is fun and the optical quality nears that of primes. You do lose some keepers though searching for the right focus. I switched to nikon though so I am selling the lens (no good adapters for F mount.).

with the exception of the 35-70 f/3.4 (with the yummy macro ability) zeiss and zoom shouldnt belong in the same sentence :/

At this point I don't think I could go back now that I've sampled top Leica and Contax lenses. One day I will have the coin to put a fast L back in the fold but for now I am quite pleased. As attractive as zoom is I will pass.

Mate of mine, a Sony advocate, just got a Zeiss 24-70 'as payment' for shooting their UK catalogue. With AF! How I smiled for him :)

If I read this correctly, all prime users are IQ snobs and all zoom users are lazy?

Maybe just the Leica Trimar users meet some niche of perfection where they appreciate IQ but are willing to work for it.

And not all SUVs are cars, though the trend is in that direction.
An SUV used to be pretty much a truck with a station-wagon body, like the old Chevy Suburban, Ford Bronco, and GMC Jimmy. Not any more. Have you seen the new Ford Explorer (US version)? Gone is the ladder frame and huge towing capacity.

Zoom can be quite useful if you want to pack light and still get the IQ that you want without loading up your pack.

5DMKII or 5D MK III
Enough gear for now... need to get out and shoot more.
