Hey guys,

A few shots from last night's sunset, all presented as straight from camera.

Looking for any preferences between the first two shots, as well as any tips for the third shot regarding cropping etc. I would like to draw emphasis to the person on the bow of the ship but don't want to take away from the sky nor the size of the ship. I am having some difficulty with this.

Any input is very much appreciated! Thanks for looking.

Top two are nice - not enough to command prolonged attention, but mood-setters so to speak. I prefer the second as it's little less centred, which adds a fraction more interest. The sig.'s a bit overwhelming. #3: not much to say about it really. If you want to emphasise the person, consider removing the little semi-circular hoops that obscure his or her outline. The arms up thing invites some speculation as to what they're up to without providing much insight... a little frustrating. Are you sure the horizon's straight?

Cheers,
Tony

Thanks for the great critique, tony. All great information. For the record, the person's arms are up because he is taking a picture. Not that it's terribly obvious, I suppose. Thanks again.

I like the last one best.. the zoomed in ones don't do much for me. That same detail can be captured in more of a landscape.

I find your watermark too distracting. I'd eliminate the white glow from it and I think you'd have something better and less distracting.

I like the last shot the most. The others have great texture but the close zoom gives them no context, i think. Great colors tho.

First step........ Take the lens cap off.

I liked the third one the most and I would crop down a bit from the black part. :=) great shot!

Beautiful wave/light abstracts in #1 and #2.

Personally I never want to see a corporate logo or brand identification in an image ever. My feeling is if someone wants to download the image for their desktop I am offering the image gratis for their personal enjoyment. If someone wants a print or to license a high resolution copy that is a different beast entirely. I also use Digimarc for image identification and protection because images are valuable. This philosophy may change in the future. Some folks have a significant investment in their art.

If we're talking 1st vs 2nd, 1st for sure. Heaps more form in it, looks much better. It's quite nice.

The watermark was just stuck there as a feeble and half-hearted attempt to stop someone else from using my image. I agree about the white glow here. Thank you for the input.

I did snap qutie a few landscape shots but they ended up in the recycle bin. I wish I had been able to capture the scene more as a whole. Thanks for the insight.

The context does lack. I would intend this pair of shots as more of an abstract thing. I like tonydee's terminology: "mood-setters". Thanks.

I would like to learn about some more sophisticated ways of protecting my images rather than sticking a distracting blob of white in the corner of my images. As well, I would like to upgrade to a server where I can upload my images and not worry about them being stolen by the host. I currently use imageshack because it is free but I can't imagine that it's a great idea. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the tips and comments.

Thanks! I felt the same way and now it's been confirmed once or twice by others. I appreciate the input.

Another quick thanks to everyone who lent a hand.
