I am debating on which to go with. I currently shoot with a pair of 40D's. I would like to have a little bit better high ISO performance for indoor event type work and the better autofocus speed would be handy for bird in flight shots. I could also use the extra cropping ability since my longest lens is 400mm and I like to shoot birds/wildlife.

On the other hand, I would really like to have the new Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II. I am wanting to get into more paid work and always have to rent the Mark I from my local camera store when shooting indoors. I figure if I buy this lens I might as well go with the newest model or I will end up upgrading and wishing that I had gotten it in the first place.

I generally shoot wildlife, candids of my son and the occasional event. I am hoping to do some more weddings/portraits coming up as well.

Why do you rent the Mk1 when you have a Sigma? I'm asking because I don't know anything about the Sigma.

I personally would not buy a 7D to do more cropping. But you can't go wrong with either purchase really.

Both and double up the rebate on the mkii!

I had a weak moment and did this a couple weeks ago.

Love the focus on the 7D. I am not sure its faster on center point, but the other points definitely seem stronger now & I like the additional af options.

ISO performance is better than my 40D, but not as much as I hoped. I think I am getting about a 1 to 1.5 stop improvement so far (Differences probably start at 1600). I hope this will get a little better as I become more familiar with it.

The mkii is sweet. Its big, its heavy, it make me feel self conscious. But I'm loving the images . I wish I had more places to use it.

1.6 crop & some lenses

7D, then the MkII later :) Love my 7D over the 40D for my wildlife/bird pics...but I'm also with ark, I wish I had more places to use my 70-200 MkII...it is just a fantastic piece of engineering and optical work.

The Sigma does not have an IS/OS system and it is very hard to get sufficient shutter speeds indoors without flash.

I've thought about it. The price is awfully close though with the rebates. I saw the Sigma listed for a little over 1300 but wasn't seriously looking at the time. Now it is at 1699.
