we had ours on Friday...

I've always been used to the "Monday" being the bank holiday in the UK. Having to readjust schedules is annoying!

Try a humidifier.....I don't snore when ours is running, but if it gets shut off....look out eardrums!

Around here, our climate is so dry that all furnaces have humidifiers on them. I sure notice when they are not working right.

Some of us have today as our New Year's Holiday. This time I'm sticking to my schedule. :D

Around here it is a holiday today too, a day off because New Years fell on a weekend. Is it not a holiday throughout the US? I know a few people took Friday off instead of today. Nonetheless, as I barely did any company work over the last 2 weeks, I will be doing a few things anyway.

We didn't get much snow in the valley but the higher parts got quite a bit.

Do you actually have to shovel the snow, or do you just wait a few hours for it to melt? :)

Got one on the furnace, but upstairs is a heat pump, so we have a stand-alone humidifier in the bedroom.

In the US, date-specific holidays that fall on a weekend are generally observed on the closest regular work day (New Years, 4th of July, Veteran's Day, Christmas) because that's when the federal government observes them (hence bankers tend to as well). So in 2010, we had the Fridays before Christmas and New Years off; next year, when they fall on Sunday, we'll get the following Monday off. We have "Monday" holidays for some of the other ones, where it's observed the nth Monday of the month.

Yup next year in my job instead of getting friday off we will have a 1pm closing on it with the monday off. A better deal than this year.

Here, unless a company opts to do something different, it is always deferred to the Monday. I would much prefer it be on a Friday in most cases though.

I tried to take a cell phone picture, then upload it and post it here, but for some reason I can't get them to send to my online album. Weird. Oh well. You guys don't get to see a white St George.

I'm reading Madeleine L'Engle (for the umpteenth time). I never get tired of her books. Have been going trough them again, and am on 'A Swiftly Tilting Planet'.
I think this is at least the 15th time reading it. Many Waters is next. My favorite!

I LOVE Madeleine L'Engle books!!!! I have read several of her books! My grandmother bought me 'A Swiftly Tilting Planet' when I was 10 or so. I read it then... along with 'A Wrinkle In Time' and 'A Wind In The Door'. I totally enjoyed them... and I re-read them all for a Children's Literature class I took in college as I had to read a certain number of chapter books. I loved them even more the second time, and took away a completely new understanding of them.... sounds like it's about time to read them again!!!

Lonnie you'll like this. We ran up to Redrock late this afternoon after the snow started coming down. I love snow in the desert, it's like yin and yang, like chocolate and peanut butter, like ebony and ivory well you get the idea.

They're nothing special just something to share.

Jenn, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. That is so sad. He was so young!

Thanks everyone.... It has been a very shocking unexpected loss... Ian will be greatly missed by my family and the other family who loved him as much as we did and like he was our own kin.

We are hoping that his sister does not 'show up' as he would NOT want her to be in charge of his final plans... he would want us and the Hensley's to make those arrangments as he was estranged from his sister...

At this point based we are guessing a heart attack. He was overweight, lived off Bojangles/fast food, and with family history.... Nancy and Tim noted Christmas day when they helped him to the car with his goodies that he was very winded on the walk up the hill... a couple of days later, he had to walk to a nearby gas station/store for Kerosene and food during the snow... We are pondering that these two events may have led to what occurred a few days later... it may have been too much for his heart.

Fortunately we can say we had a wonderful Christmas with Ian, he was very excited that the gifts he bought the boys and I were super well received and really enjoyed what we had gotten him as well...

Our family keeps getting smaller and smaller... I just never expected Ian to be the next to leave the holiday table... He filled that hole that was left after each of my grandparents passed... now we have another hole... :(

Sorry about your friend Jenn. When you used the word "Bojangels" it hit home as people in grade school thru H.S. called me that.
