In the US, date-specific holidays that fall on a weekend are generally observed on the closest regular work day (New Years, 4th of July, Veteran's Day, Christmas) because that's when the federal government observes them (hence bankers tend to as well). So in 2010, we had the Fridays before Christmas and New Years off; next year, when they fall on Sunday, we'll get the following Monday off. We have "Monday" holidays for some of the other ones, where it's observed the nth Monday of the month.

Our company a lots 10 holidays per year, we had to go with Monday so as not to have 11 in 2010. I'm actually liking it as it gives me a rare day to myself.:D

Time to do some housework and start on the SheCave. I'll be back during breaks.

It'll melt.

Yeah, ours is melting fast already, too. This definitely isn't like the December 2008 storm we had. That dumped a lot more snow on us than yesterday's, and the snow back then lasted about a week. I think this is all going to be gone by the time I have to go to work tonight... :(

Minnie does. Ashley always loved the snow, too.

 We've taken our girls north to play in the snow before, but I think it's a first for a couple of the other pups. They rampaged for about 20 minutes before coming in and crashing on the couch.

It's what I love most about living in the high desert. Every couple years we get a good coating to make things look pretty for a little while. :D

Morning everyone. Still sick and feeling worse, so I did something rare for me, and called in sick. Gonna take the day, and rest, and hopefully feel better tomorrow.

eddarr wrote in post #11560822 (external link)
Lonnie you'll like this. We ran up to Redrock late this afternoon after the snow started coming down. I love snow in the desert, it's like yin and yang, like chocolate and peanut butter, like ebony and ivory well you get the idea.

They're nothing special just something to share.

Dan went to bed early (he's got this cold too) and both the dogs and both the cats went with him. They are all snuggled together and there's not any space left for me.

That is usually what happens in the morning. John will get up to try to let me sleep, and I typically end up with 3 or 4 cats on the bed, and Buddy on his bed next to ours, crying, because he wants me up too.

Wow, Lonnie. Your part of California sure doesn't look like our part of Californianat all. It's amazing what a couple thousand feet of elevation can do. I think you're at about 2700 feet, and we're just about sea level.

Yep, I'm just under 2700 feet here. It sure doesn't take much of an elevation change to make a drastic difference, huh?

I'm just glad I didn't have to drive to work (or back home) in this, though. The timing of this storm couldn't have been better. I've been working days for the past couple months, but Saturday was my last day working the day shift. I go back to the night shift schedule at midnight tonight. If this storm had happened a few days earlier, I would have been fighting traffic in this on the 14, and there are a LOT of accidents on that bit of road this morning, including one Sig Alert...

Speaking of the desert, it looks like we'll be losing one of our more famous residents pretty soon. Lindsay Lohan's court-ordered stint at the Betty Ford Clinic ends today.

I'll miss her.

At this point based we are guessing a heart attack. He was overweight, lived off Bojangles/fast food, and with family history.... Nancy and Tim noted Christmas day when they helped him to the car with his goodies that he was very winded on the walk up the hill... a couple of days later, he had to walk to a nearby gas station/store for Kerosene and food during the snow... We are pondering that these two events may have led to what occurred a few days later... it may have been too much for his heart.

Fortunately we can say we had a wonderful Christmas with Ian, he was very excited that the gifts he bought the boys and I were super well received and really enjoyed what we had gotten him as well...

Our family keeps getting smaller and smaller... I just never expected Ian to be the next to leave the holiday table... He filled that hole that was left after each of my grandparents passed... now we have another hole...

This made me sniff a whole bunch, Jenn...you can FEEL your pain through the post. Whatever took him, I hope it was painless for him.

Aw gee, darn.

I have a stinky dog who just wants to be close today. I know you're not supposed to bathe them too often, but daggone, she's going to get another one today....idk what the heck she rolled in!
